It may just be a mother's intuition, but my kids are brilliant. (Ok, maybe I'm a bit biased.) A has been very interested in performing experiments recently. It started with a bowl we got from Wendy's, where if you add food coloring to milk, then add soap, the colored milk "explodes" away from the soap. A thought that was so cool, we decided to explore science a bit more each day. Recently, the kids have been enamored with volcanoes. Thanks to my 1 geology course in college and YouTube, the kids are pretty knowledgeable about the kids on volcanoes, where they are, and the difference between lava and magma. (Insert a proud mama smile now.)
Today we focused on water. There is a small creek that runs at the end of our street, and we took turns dropping leaves in the creek to see how far they would float. It allowed for a million smaller discussions, such as "what is algae?"; "why does it flow this way (and not the other)?"; and "what animals live in rivers/lakes/oceans?"
I'm loving my little explorers!
